🪡 Pins from The Atelier
Some things that put a lil “twinkle” in our eye this week. 5 total pins.
Artist Stephanie Shih is a ceramicist who creates sculptures of cultural significance. Her work often pokes fun at society and exposes the ironies like the Botox and Fly (Vanitas) below. She’s currently working on a museum commission about diaspora and has sent an open call for people to send her their tchotchkes, which she may include in the piece. If you have a tchotchke to send, mail it to Stephanie at P.O Box 310007, Brooklyn, NY 11231. Do NOT send anything super valuable. For a list of what to send click here.
Night in, or night out? Emily Witt, Staff Writer at The New Yorker, gives us the opportunity to do both. She recently published her memoir Health and Safety: A Breakdown about her experience in Brooklyn’s underground dance club scene and much more.
Ahhh, nostalgia-core. This site acts as a time machine, allowing you to surf movies, tv shows, commercials and more from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s.
Season 3 of Industry… no words. Dimepiece interviewed the show’s creators on their watch taste and how they evolved from fake props to real watches this past season.
Garbage-core: The art and fashion world is trending towards objects that look like they’re destined for the trash. Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection features a $1,800 wallet that looks like a crumbled chip bag. On a similar note, an indented beer can that was on display at the LAM museum in the Netherlands was mistaken as garbage and thrown in the trash.

Thoughts and advice on being creative
Seek out critique. Thoughtful critique is necessary in every craft. There’s a reason art schools make critique a major part of their curriculum: It is how our craft gets better. Don’t shy away from it—seek it out.
